The game begins with Operation Barbarossa and follows the conflict as Soviet forces recover and drive the Axis westward. Players maneuver armies and corps across a single mounted map, with turns representing one or two months of the campaign. Scenario play covers focused periods of the war, while the full campaign spans 22 game turns. Combat strength changes over time, including increasing Soviet effectiveness as the war progresses.
