Victory at Sea - Surcouf Cruiser Submarine brings one of the most unique and ambitious submarines of World War II to the tabletop. When launched, Surcouf was the largest submarine in the world, designed as a long-range commerce raider with an incredible 10,000-mile range and the ability to stay at sea for 90 days. Equipped with a Besson MN-411 floatplane for reconnaissance and artillery spotting, she was built to hunt enemy shipping in dramatic fashion.
Unlike conventional submarines, Surcouf carried a pair of 8-inch naval guns housed in a watertight turret, allowing it to engage surface targets at a distance. Additionally, it featured an extensive torpedo armament, including forward-facing tubes and two quad-mounted trainable launchers, as well as a prison hold for captured crews. However, her complex design resulted in mechanical issues, slow dive times, and poor stability in rough seas. After escaping to England when France fell, she was seized by the British before being handed over to the Free French. While admired by French forces, the Royal Navy remained skeptical of her combat effectiveness.
In Victory at Sea, Surcouf offers an unconventional and exciting option for French players, blending submarine stealth with surface combat power. Add this remarkable warship to your fleet, available now at Boarding School Games.
