Congress of Vienna: Diplomacy, Negotiation & War in Europe, 1813-1814 is a card-driven strategy game for one to four players that captures the intense political maneuvering and military conflict during the twilight of the Napoleonic era. As the latest installment in GMT’s Great Statesmen series, this game blends high-stakes diplomacy with large-scale warfare across a sweeping map of Europe from Iberia to Poland, and even extends to the American War of 1812.
Drawing inspiration from the acclaimed Churchill system, Congress of Vienna puts players in the roles of major powers—Austria, Russia, Britain, and France—as they shape post-Napoleonic Europe through debate, backroom deals, and battlefield dominance. Each turn features a tightly woven sequence of Diplomacy, Government, and War phases, where decisions ripple across fronts and influence the balance of power. Staff and Event cards representing historical figures and situations are central to gameplay, driving negotiations, advancing agendas, and triggering decisive military actions.
With full and scenario-based campaigns, including the Spring Campaign of Saxony and the 1814 push into France, Congress of Vienna provides deep replayability. Handicap cards also introduce flexible difficulty for newer players, making the experience accessible without sacrificing depth. Whether you're orchestrating diplomatic triumphs or leading armies to glory, every choice shapes the legacy of your nation.
