Black Powder: Napoleonic Wars (1789-1815) - French Chasseurs à Cheval brings Napoleon’s versatile and highly mobile light cavalry to your tabletop. Originally formed in 1743, the Chasseurs à Cheval served as the eyes and ears of the French army, excelling in scouting, skirmishing, and raiding. Their ability to engage enemy cavalry, gather intelligence, and disrupt enemy lines made them an essential part of Napoleon’s military machine.
Equipped with carbines, curved sabers, and bayonets—though the latter were often "lost" or repurposed for digging up vegetables—the Chasseurs preferred to fight from horseback but were also trained for dismounted combat when necessary. At their peak, 31 regiments of Chasseurs à Cheval served in the French army, with 15 regiments taking part in the climactic Hundred Days campaign leading to Waterloo.
